I shudder to think of the hours - probably more like years - of research that went into this book, and the tedium of poring through old notes and letters and congressional records and newspaper clippings and on and on and on. There was no conversation so trivial that he couldn't find a space for it in this book. Karl Rove is also very interested in every single facet of the election of 1896. Those things don't interest me at all, but they interest Karl Rove, the author, A LOT. The election was about two topics that interest me not at all - tariffs and silver vs. I do, however, know WAY more than I wanted to know about the election. I know McKinley was assassinated, but I don't know any of the details, which is sort of a bummer. Even though that is obviously right there in the title, I was still a little disappointed.
